| Prob. won't get to it til next season at this point, but I'm trying to decide what colors to paint my front door, trim, foundation (below where siding leaves off) and steps, windows, and shutters (which I don't have yet). The house has vinyl siding that is light grey/blue. That can't change, at least for now. The roof is black. The house is a typical modest 1950 rambler, 880 SF. I can't find a pic of the whole thing at this moment, so that info should help you.
I want something tasteful, but colorful, happy. Ideally I would have liked the siding to be a warm but muted yellow, or beige bordering on peach, I guess. I don't want such light colors for the trim with grey siding though. Thoughts?

| purple trim, sky blue door?
black trim, yellow door? no, not yellow... black trim, uh, ... i'm not good at this.
but you know i like that picture of you. ;) | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | When you get the shutters, how about the classic forest green for them. Something cheery for the door, ...a deep red perhaps? The dark grey currently on the door might make a nice trim color for the door frame, and windows. If you paint the foundation and steps, choose a muted color that won't draw attention away from the rest of the house, maybe another shade of grey or 'sand' color. | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | I'm picturing either a deep navy blue door and shutters with a white foundation and trim or a red door with black shutters and foundation similar in color to the siding. | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| I'm thinking dark red for the door. I saw that several others had that same thought, and I like bookbird's suggestion of black for the shutters. | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | thanks, vjsm, and others for these great suggestions! it's doing me good to imagine something different for this drab house! | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| | I like the red door with black shutters/trim. It's very classic, yet much more exciting than the monotone look you have going right now. | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| | It's hard to tell from this picture, I can only see the door and the steps and a little bit of siding. I'd leave the siding the colour it is as it's a great neutral. Paint the door and trim rich yellow. Instead of the sunflowers at the side of the steps, plant some evergreens, and place bulbs and perennials as well. If you don't paint the siding you can use the money to upgrade the steps using one of the faux stone finish products, and perhaps add a fancier mailbox and some wrought iron flower boxes to the side of the railings at the top. A new house number and outside lamp would finish it nicely. | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | It's hard to go wrong with black lacquer and gray. Plus with the yellow flowers there, isn't that pretty much the 'it' color palette right now? | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | i think a bright blue would be pretty. :) | | (Reply) (Thread) |
